European semiconductor sales reached $2.873billion in May 2015, according to the European Semiconductor Industry Association (ESIA).
The figures are said to show that, while the European semiconductor market remained essentially at the same level as the previous month, there was increased demand in key application sectors. In particular, sales of discrete semiconductor devices rose by 3.7% compared to April 2015, while sales of diodes rose by 5% and optoelectronics by 6.7%.
When stated in Euros, the European market showed very strong growth. Although sales in May were down by 0.1% at €2.63bn, they were 16.4% more than in May 2014.
On a global basis, semiconductor sales in May 2015 were $28.2bn, 2.1% higher than April, and 5.1% higher than in May 2014.
