09:4920-V power MOSFET in chipscale package
Vishay released a 20-V p-channel TrenchFET power MOSFET in a MICRO FOOT chipscale package. The Si8441DB offers an 0.59-mm profile and a footprint area of 1.5mm by 1mm. It is also the first device of its kind of offer an on-resistance rating at 1.2V. Typical applications will include load switching and battery protection in portable devices such as cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, MP3 players, and smart phones. The Si8441DB offers an on-resistance range from 0.600Ω at 1.2-V VGS to 0.080 at 4.5-V VGS, with a maximum gate-source voltage of ±5V. The on-resistance rating at 1.2V reduces the need for level shift circuitry, thus saving space in portable electronics designs. Also released, in the same MICRO FOOT package, was the 20-V p-channel Si8451DB. Rated for a maximum gate-to-source voltage of 8V, on-resistance for the Si8451DB ranges from 0.200Ω at 1.5V to 0.080 Ω at 4.5V.

09:4810.4-inch TFT display with with LED backlight
With the introduction of the 10.4-inch display LQ104V1DG62, Sharp presents an industry-compatible TFT LCD with LED backlight. The special housing design means that the LCD withstands accelerations of up to 14.7 m/s² in the range of 57 – 500 kHz during the vibration test. In the standard impact test, the display can withstand impacts with acceleration values of up to 490 m/s² without damage when switched off. Sharp has designed the housing specifically for the LED backlight and equipped it with dedicated heat management. Heat conductors transport the dissipation heat of the LEDs to the rear outer side of the panel where it can be given off into the environment.
The LED backlight variant of the Strong2 LCDs fulfils the full industry specification with an operating temperature of -30°C to 80°C and a lifecycle of 50,000 hours. A special anti-reflection coating reduces light reflexes of the incidental light. The TFT LCD is thus particularly suitable where tough application conditions meet rapidly changing light conditions, e.g. in outdoor areas for forest, farming and construction machinery and in transport. Another important advantage of the LED backlight is the low-volt operating voltage. This means that the high-voltage converter required for CCFL lamps is no longer necessary. The consequence: reduced system complexity and the new Sharp industry LCD can be used where high voltage is not required, e.g. in areas where there is a risk of explosion. These usually include production sites where large quantities of dust occur such as flour-processing firms or where easily inflammable liquids are handled, e.g. in the petrochemicals industry.
With the LQ104V1DG62, the Strong2 product range incorporates a total of 12 models with screen diagonals of 8.4 inches, 10.4 inches and 12.1 inches. Further models with LED backlight are already in development. Samples of the LQ104V1DG62 are available immediately, the start of series production is planned for the 2nd quarter of 2008.

09:46RF Module Designed for ZigBee Mesh Networking
Digi International introduced the XBee-PRO ZNet 2.5, an extended-range RF module designed for ZigBee mesh networking. The XBee-PRO provides up to 1 mile (1.6 km) RF line-of-sight transmission, increasing the number of applications in which ZigBee mesh networking can be used.
The XBee-PRO ZNet 2.5 operates on the 2.4 GHz ISM band making it appropriate for use worldwide. It is ready to operate out of the box and will be available with four antenna options.
The XBee-PRO ZNet 2.5 is available for $27.60 in quantities of 1,000. Development kits are also available for $339 that include all of the tools necessary to make deployment easy.

09:45Aluminium electrolytic capacitors for 260ºC reflow processes
Several case sizes from NIC Component’s NAZT series of surface mount aluminium electrolytic capacitors are now rated to 260ºC – the current maximum recommended temperature for Sn-Ag-Cu (SAC) alloy lead-free reflow solder processes. That making them dedicated for use in power management applications including DC-DC converters and DC-AC inverters. NAZT device case sizes measuring 4mm, 5mm, 6.3mm and 8mm diameter are suitable for exposure to the higher temperature SAC process.
Parts are available with capacitance values of between 4.7µF and 1000uf and voltage ratings of 6.3VDC to 50VDC. 4mm, 5mm and 6.3mm diameter components specify an extended load life of 2000 hours, whilst 8mm diameter parts are rated to 5000 hours (both at 105ºC). Larger case size devices (10mm, 12.5mm and 16mm diameter) from the NAZT range are suited to lower SAC solder alloy processes of between 235ºC and 250ºC. All devices in the series have an operating temperature range of -40ºC to +105ºC. Each part number contains a peak soldering heat code for ease of reference. The NAZT series is supplied in tape and reel packaging ready for automated pick-and-place assembly processes.
