08:05Ethernet-over-PDH Mapper
Maxim introduces the DS33X162, the first product in the Company's family of Ethernet mapping solutions. The DS33X162 is a Ethernet-over-PDH (EoPDH) mapping device that enables the delivery of  Carrier Ethernet services over the existing PDH telecommunications infrastructure. It allows Ethernet transport from a single GbE or dual 10/100 Ethernet interfaces, and supports up to 16 T1/E1 links or 8 DS3 links with over 400Mbps throughput.

The DS33X162 thus covers the complete range of configurations defined in the EoPDH standards. The DS33X162's data and control plane separation removes the need for software to process the data path, but still allows software interaction for management and value-adding functions.

DS33X162 functions elevate Ethernet to "Carrier Grade" service quality. The device performs Ethernet frame encapsulation in GFP-F, HDLC, or X.86 (LAPS). It also performs ingress policing, Ethernet service profiling, VLAN-based forwarding, priority-based forwarding, VLAN tagging, quality of service (QoS) priority scheduling, and enables Ethernet OAM. These functions are important attributes for delivering Carrier Ethernet services, as defined by the Metro Ethernet Forum.

The distribution of traffic over multiple physical links is supported through hardware implementations of the VCAT and LCAS protocols. These protocols have been used extensively in SONET/SDH optical networks, but have recently been extended to wired networks through new standards, primarily ITU-T G.7041, G.7042, G.7043, and G.8040. The DS33X162 complies with these and many other telecommunications standards.

The DS33X162 is available in a 17mm x 17mm, 256-pin CSBGA package and is specified over the extended-industrial temperature range (-40°C to +85°C). Pricing for the 16-port DS33X162 starts at $73.11 (5000-up, FOB USA). Pricing for the single-port DS33X11 is $17.33 (5000-up, FOB USA). The DS33X162DK design kit and free software drivers are available.

08:02Single/Dual MOSFET drivers in a TDFN package
Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX15024/MAX15025 single/dual MOSFET drivers in a thermally enhanced, 3mm x 3mm, TDFN package. The MAX15024 is a single gate driver capable of sinking up to 8A and sourcing up to 4A of peak current. The MAX15025 is a dual gate driver capable of sinking and sourcing up to 4A of peak current. Both devices have propagation-delay matching of typically 2ns between channels, and usually less than 17ns from part to part. An integrated adjustable LDO provides gate-driver amplitude control and optimization. The MAX15024/MAX15025 are ideal for use in power MOSFET switching, motor control, and ultra-compact, high-frequency switching power supplies.

The MAX15024/MAX15025 operate from a 4.5V to 28V supply voltage and can withstand transients up to 30V. Moreover, the inverting and noninverting logic inputs are designed to operate at up to 22V, regardless of the VCC supply voltage. The devices include a logic circuit to prevent internal shoot-through current during output-state change. They are available with either CMOS or TTL logic-level inputs.

The MAX15024/MAX15025 are fully specified over the -40°C to +125°C automotive temperature range. They are available in a 3mm x 3mm, 10-pin TDFN package with an exposed pad that is capable of dissipating up to 2W at +70°C ambient temperature. Prices start at $1.01 (1000-up, FOB USA).
08:01ThreadX RTOS Support in IAR Embedded Workbench IDE for ColdFire
The IAR Embedded Workbench now supports Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS. Developers using ThreadX can elect to use IAR Embedded Workbench IDE for their ColdFire software development tools. IAR Embedded Workbench, with support for ColdFire V1, V2 and V3 cores, is a set of development tools—C/C++ compiler, assembler, linker, librarian, text editor, project manager, and debugger—combined in an integrated development environment (IDE) for programming embedded applications. With its built-in chip-specific code optimizer, IAR Embedded Workbench generates flash/PROMable code for ColdFire devices.

The Workbench includes a ThreadX-aware debugger that helps developers view kernel objects (threads, queues, semaphores, mutexes, etc.) during application development. Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS is a RTOS for ColdFire-based applications. ThreadX supports ColdFire application development with a preemptive real-time scheduler, memory allocation/deallocation, interrupt handling, and many other RTOS services. ThreadX is a RTOS for embedded systems in consumer electronics, medical equipment, industrial automation, wireless networking, and automotive applications.

ThreadX support for IAR Embedded Workbench for ColdFire is available from Express Logic, and IAR Embedded Workbench for ColdFire is available from IAR Systems. ThreadX licenses, with full source code, start at $12,500 with no run-time royalties.
