10:46Broadcast Radio Front End IC
Atmel announced the availability of the broadcast radio front end IC ATR4262, which is designed for mobile systems such as car radios. The ATR4262 is compatible with the major radio standards including HD Radio, DRM, and AM/FM. Its FM section handles the frequency range from 70 MHz to 166 MHz, including weather band and HD Radio in the US. The AM path covers the entire broadcasting frequency range from 150 kHz up to 30 MHz, including DRM systems. The weather band functionality, for example, can be realized without additional components. Furthermore, no external crystals are needed as the ATR4262 features the use of any external clock signal.

The ATR4262's AGC system enables matching to all reception conditions. The IF amplifier has 3 different inputs, which can be tailored to different filters. This allows the support of multiple radio standards such as AM/FM; HD Radio, or DRM. In addition, the ATR4262 provides several control possibilities, thus allowing connection to various baseband processors.

Samples of the ATR4262 are now available in QFN packages. Pricing starts at US $2.00 for 100k piece quantities. Sample design demo boards are also available.

10:19Audio Codecs for VoIP

IDT introduces three high definition PC audio codecs. The high fidelity audio codecs are designed to help bring home-entertainment-level audio fidelity to next generation desktop and high-end notebook systems, whilst supporting mobile user capabilities such as advanced processing for voice over Internet protocol (VoIP). The IDT IDT92HD73C, IDT92HD73D and IDT92HD73E feature 6, 8, and 10 stereo channels respectively, enabling simultaneous audio and VoIP capability. Combined with the IDT proprietary software suite, the devices each provide an unparalleled audio user experience in desktop or notebook applications. The 6-channel device provides advanced audio capabilities for high-end multimedia notebook applications; the 8-channel IDT audio codec is designed for ultra-high end consumer notebooks or desktop-based consumer entertainment systems. The 10-channel IDT codec provides best-in-class audio for high-end entertainment desktop applications. The devices provide stereo 24-bit resolution with sample rates up o 192 kHz and dual digital SPDIF outputs to enable simple integration with multi-channel consumer entertainment equipment, including audio integration with system HDMI video. In addition, the devices are compatible with the Intel high definition (HD) audio interface.
