09:25Three-input active HDMI switch supports 3.4Gbps

STMicroelectronics announced a HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) to support a video data-transfer rate of up to 3.4-Gigabits per second (Gbps), enabling full 16-bit color depth (65k colors) to be maintained for a true high-definition (HD) picture. The STDVE003A is designed to be used in LCD and Plasma TV sets to provide multiple HDMI inputs for external program sources, such as game consoles, high-definition DVD players (Blu-ray and HD-DVD), and set-top boxes (STBs). In addition, its integrated equalizer is designed to overcome signal degradation when long (greater than 20m) and lossy cables are used. The STDVE003A is an active digital multiplexer designed for high-performance TMDS (Transition Minimized Differential Signaling) data transfer.

Configured as a 3:1 switch, it enables TV designers to provide as many as three input ports while using only a single HDMI receiver chip. Signal integrity is maintained and enhanced by an internal active block which receives and equalizes the input signal before transmitting it to the next stage. The (3.4 Gbps) data-transfer rate is fully compliant with the latest and strictest HDMI specification, version 1.3. Control of signal routing through the switch is by means of Select pins. The device also supports DDC (Display Data Channel) and HPD (Hot-Plug Detect) data switching, and provides on-chip 50-ohm input termination. Flow-through pin-out ensures straightforward PCB layout.

The STDVE003A complements ST’s existing STHDMI002A two-way high-speed TMDS switch. It is supplied in a TQFP80L package, priced at $1.50 in quantities of 100,000. Samples are available now, with volume production planned during Q4 2007.

09:1816-channel CMOS LED driver
Toshiba Electronics Europe has introduced a 16-output constant-current LED driver, which allows closely matched drive currents within ±1% for up to 16 LEDs using only one programming resistor. The TCA62746 is built using pure CMOS technology, delivering a low-cost solution to driving multi-LED arrays for large-size display panels. Convenient features to control large LED arrays are managed via the device’s three-wire serial interface, which enables direct communication with a host controller. Features include output open-circuit and output short-circuit detection, which communicate status to the controller via the serial interface. The serial interface also supports cascading of multiple drivers to control larger LED arrays. In multi-driver implementations, typical output current matching between devices is ±3%.

With per-channel current output selectable from 2mA to 50mA, and constant-current output voltage up to 17V the TCA62746 is suitable for use with a wide variety of high-brightness LEDs. The operating voltage range, from 4.5V to 5.5V, allows direct integration with standard logic circuitry. Two 24-pin SSOP surface-mount package styles are available, offering a choice of 0.65mm lead pitch or 1.00mm pitch. Additional features enabling versatile LED control include greyscale dimming using an external PWM signal, an integrated Power On Reset as well as on-chip diagnostics. Furthermore an output delay circuit is also integrated, which minimises switching noise when multiple outputs are simultaneously turned on or off. The TCA62746 is functionally compatible with the existing Toshiba TB62706B and TB62726A BiCMOS 16-channel drivers.
