09:01720W Power factor correction module
Emerson Network Power has launched a 720 watt power factor correction module that has a 61 x 89 mm footprint and a mounting height of 14 mm. The AIT02ZPFC module features a universal input that accepts any voltage in the range 85 to 264 Vac at any frequency from 47 to 63 Hz and from 360 to 800 Hz. The module presents a near unity power factor to the incoming power line, and generates a typical output of 393 Vdc, which is intended for feeding to one or more high voltage dc-dc converters for further down-conversion to the low voltages required by the application. Emerson Network Power produces a number of compatible high voltage half-brick and full-brick dc-dc converters, with outputs ranging from 1.8 to 48 Vdc.

When fed with a 230 Vac input, the AIT02ZPFC module has a typical power conversion efficiency of 93%; it can deliver up to 1.83 A @ 393 Vdc and achieves a power density in excess of 155 watts per cubic inch. The module uses active power factor correction to minimise input harmonic current distortion and ensure compliance with the RTCA/DO-160D avionics standard at 115 Vac at full load, and EN61000-3-2. A number of built-in control and monitoring functions make the module easy to integrate within a system. Remote-enable and temperature monitoring functions are provided as standard, and the output voltage can be adjusted from 79% to 100% of nominal via a single control pin. Inrush current is limited by an external resistor. AIT02ZPFC modules are fully encapsulated and have an aluminium baseplate for conduction cooling. They have no minimum load requirement and operate over a wide baseplate temperature range of -20 to +100 degrees Celsius.

Input-to-baseplate and output-to-baseplate isolation is rated at 2,700 Vdc, and leakage current is held to less than 3 ma at 800 Hz input frequency. The modules are fully protected against over-voltage and over-temperature conditions and carry a full set of international safety agency approvals, including EN60950 TUV and UL/cUL60950. Pricing in 100-piece quantities is $98 US.

08:58GPS antenna module based on SIRF Star III
The A1035-D is the combination of Tyco Electronics’ GPS receiver module A1080-A with a 3dB-gain patch antenna. A start-up behavior of <35s under cold start condition, -159dBm tracking and power consumption of 36mA average tracking current are the key features of the GPS receiver module. By combining the A1080-A with a state of the art patch antenna, which provides a 3dB gain, shows an almost perfectly hemispherical radiation field and operates virtuallv independently of the surrounding equipment, the A1035-D was created. The accurate PVT information is obtained by simply connecting 3 digital signals (Power, GND, and Serial-out).

08:56PCI Express Arbitrary Waveform Generator up to 125 MS/s

Spectrum is one of the first manufacturers world-wide who has released a full product series of Arbitrary Waveform Generators (AWG) for the PCI Express bus. The new product series is 100% software compatible to the PCI cards of the M2i series of the manufacturer and also uses the same analog modules. The AWG family contains 10 different models with 1 to 4 synchronous channels and sampling rates up to 125 MS/s. Each card can run as freely programmable signal and test pattern generator or it can be used via an internal synchronization option together with one of the digitiser cards of Spectrum. It is possible to output any waveform from the on-board memory which can be up to 4 GByte. The whole on-board memory can also be used as a big FIFO buffer allowing to output data continuously for hours.

Each channel can be individually programmed for offset, gain and filtering. The output drivers of the card can output a maximum of +/-3V in 50 Ohm load. It is possible to reach a high output level of +/-10V using the optional amplifier cards. During the development of this card family a lot of customer requests have been incorporated leading to a huge number of easy-to-use and powerful features. As an example, the Single-Restart mode allows to repeat a free programmed waveform on each external trigger event. The dead time is only 4 clock cycles making it possible to react to a new trigger event after only 40 ns when using 100 MS/s output rate. The card is delivered with drivers for Windows 2000, XP, Vista as well as Linux kernel 2.4 and 2.6. On all operating systems the 32 bit as well as the 64 bit version are supported. The easy-to-program drivers and the powerful examples together with the detailed documentation allow a fast development of own applications. As usual from Spectrum there are also drivers for MATLAB, LabVIEW, LabWindows, DASYLab and VEE available. The programming examples, detailed data sheets and also the complete product manual can be downloaded from the website.
