10:44Terminal servers with dual LAN redundancy

Moxa has released the CN2610 terminal server, which provides dual LAN ports and a “Redundant COM” mode for robust network redundancy. Redundancy is an important requirement for many industrial applications, and different solutions have been developed to keep systems running during equipment or software failure. Special “watchdog” hardware is required to implement hardware redundancy, and a "token" switching mechanism is required at the software level. Dual LAN redundancy involves two separate physical networks that connect a PC host to the terminal server. On the CN2610, the two networks are connected using two built-in LAN ports. On the PC host, two LAN cards will be required. When dual LAN redundancy is implemented, the PC host will have continuous access to serial devices attached to the CN2610, even if one of the networks fails.

 

Redundant COM

The CN2610's “Redundant COM" mode is specially designed for redundant LANs between serial devices and a host computer. Using the two built-in LAN ports on the CN2610, the host computer connects to the terminal server over two independent LANs. If one LAN fails, data will continue to be transmitted between the serial devices and the host using the other LAN. The main advantage of MOXA’s Redundant COM mode is that the LAN switchover happens instantly. Data transmission between the host and the serial devices will not be interrupted or delayed, even if one of the LANs fails.

 

Dual Host Redundancy

The CN2610 can also be used to set up “dual host” redundancy, in which two separate hosts connect to the serial devices over two separate networks. If there is a failure at one of the hosts, data will continue to be transmitted between the serial devices and the other host over the other LAN.
 

10:413.3V Satellite Tuner for DVB-S2 Applications
Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX2112 zero-IF, direct-conversion tuner for satellite TV. This tuner receives QPSK and 8PSK signals in the 925MHz to 2175MHz range, and downconverts them to baseband for demodulation. It provides a 8.0dB noise figure and wide, -75dBm to 0dBm dynamic range, thus eliminating the need for an external LNA. Additionally, its VCO autotuner function simplifies firmware for ease of use. The MAX2112 is ideal for DVB-S2 and free-to-air applications. The MAX2112 operates from a single 3.3V supply, consumes 300mW, and is designed for use with a 27MHz crystal.

 

The MAX2112 is packaged in a 5mm x 5mm, 28-pin TQFN and is available in both the commercial (0°C to +70°C) and extended industrial temperature (-40°C to +85°C) ranges. Prices start at $4.50 (1000-up, FOB USA). Evaluation kits and reference designs are available.

10:38AMS/Kryotherm: European Distribution Agreement
Kryotherm Engineering and Production, located in St. Petersburg, a manufacturer of Peltier modules, and AMS Technologies, located in Munich, a distributor of high tech components and systems, have entered into a European distribution agreement. Kryotherm emerged 1992 from a former soviet research institute and has grown to the biggest manufacturer of Peltier modules in the Russian Federation. AMS Technologies has been serving the European market for 25 years with Peltier modules and accessories. Kryotherm’s portfolio of Peltier modules covers the whole range of thermoelectric applications, from high specialised aerospace or military applications up to automotive.
