this will go against the grain of evoryene here but unless there is a very good reason to have aperature priority, there is no reason to adjust shutter speed to match set aperature. Leave camera in fully automatic mode. If you are new to SLR's, carefully study composition first once you have mastered comp, then master depth of field and all that upen/shut aperatures can do to that depth of field. Finally, master setting shutter to slow speeds, etc. for special effects (water falls, blurred motion.) Take it one step at a time, for when you get around to setting shutter, you will be setting it to a meter-read setting anyway. Good luck. If you haven't, I suggest you get a basic photography book and read/study what all these different settings will give you and why you might use them. But for all around photos, setting the camera to fully automatic (with exception of White Balance) will give you great photos.References :
